Seven Bollywood films in the race for India’s Oscar nomination

The Film Federation of India has shortlisted eighteen films for India’s Oscar nomination. Among these, one movie will get selected and will be sent to the Oscars as the official entry in the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category.

This time there are as many as seven films from Bollywood vying to be the top contender from India. The recent release Barfi!, and Anurag Kashyap’s revenge saga Gangs of Wasseypur are also in the race. The selectors have even seen the yet-to-release Heroine, and the film is among the best eighteen.

Vidya Balan’s entertaining film The Dirty Picture, and the soul-stirring Ferrari Ki Sawaari also feature in the list, along with the critically acclaimed Irrfan Khan-starrer Paan Singh Tomar. Not to be missed, Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani is also in the fray.

The Hindi films will vie with these regional films: Eega (Telugu), Vazhakku En 18/9 (Tamil), 7aam Arivu (Tamil), Deool (Marathi), Aakashinte Niram (Malayalam).

India’s nominations for the Oscars for the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ will be selected during the screenings in Hyderabad from September 18 to 26. Let’s see which movie will be India’s official entry.
